I have opted for a projector-based solution. I purchased a Benq PB2250 DLP projector and initial tests show that the projected image is nothing short of stunning. Now I am planning the entire setup around the visual system. Here is a design of Alsim's single projector setup. This is the projection method that I have in mind.

This is the Benq PB2250 monitor that I decided to use in my cockpit:
Native resolution XGA- 1024x768
Max Resolution SXGA - 1240x1024
Keystone correction Yes
Brightness (ANSI lumens) 2200 (2000 Economy)
Contrast ratio 2000:1
Lamp life 2000 (3000 Economy)
Remote Control Yes
Lens zoom 1:1.2
Size (mm) 238 x 86 x 180 mm
Weight (KG) 1.9
Technology DLP
